Parker Wittenberg

ABOUT the ARTIST:

Parker Wittenberg is a Los Angeles-based painter whose work centers on figures and landscapes, primarily in oil. Born in California and raised in New York, she drew and painted from childhood through her teens before pursuing a career in medicine. She returned to painting in the 1990s, studying with instructors at UCLA and with Graham Nickson, painter and Dean of the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture in New York City.

Her work explores color relationships and the quiet emotional pull of remembered images — figures caught in moments of repose, landscapes shaped by light and place. She works across techniques and surfaces, using both alla prima and glazing methods on canvas, linen, jute, and board. Her plein air practice, often built across multiple sessions in a single location, draws on the same patience and attention she brings to studio compositions.

Wittenberg paints primarily in Southern California, where the variety of neighborhoods, light, and terrain offers continuous material. She has exhibited in solo and group shows, and her painting The Chinese Scholar received a Juror’s Award in New York. She holds a B.S. from the University of Arizona and completed postgraduate work at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard, in Boston.
